Coil Assembly Makeover ~ Appliance Manufacturer - April 2001
| In need of a new coil assembly for electric stapler and staple gun products, Stanley Works (East Greenwich, R.I.), asked DNA Group, Inc. (Raleigh, N.C.), for assistance.
Along with Defond Mfg. Ltd. (Chaiwan, Hong Kong), DNA Group recommended changes to the design and materials used in the existing coil assembly. Defond tooled two different-sized bobbins to Stanley. The material of the bobbin was revised to a higher grade: glass-reinforced nylon, molded in both black and natural color. The magnet wire was changed to a copper wire with less insulation that meets the current requirements for the cylindrical bobbin design. The lead wire was changed to a 600V-insulation wire sleeve that was more suitable to the application, bridging the gaps between UL specification and the Stanley requirements.
The redesign process provided Stanley with the opportunity to improve the bobbin's fit, which expanded the use of the three coil assemblies into a wider range of housings.

DNA Group's new coil assembly helped reduce turnaround time for Stanley Works' production of its Sharpshooter Staple Gun.
